Study Reveals Lunar Cycles Could Be The Cause Of “Devastating” Earthquakes

By Luke Miller Truth Theory

A New study has linked full and new moons to the increased likelihood of large and devastating earthquakes. Currently there is not enough data to to prepare for the for earthquakes in the short term, but the insight may provide information on how they develop and grow.

During full and new lunar cycles the sun, moon and earth align. This causes gravity to pull harder on the earth's crustal plates. Resulting in more active tidal movements in the oceans, which add stress to the earth's fault lines.

The study from the University of Tokyo, Japan looked at at the data of earthquakes with a magnitude of 5.5 or larger over the last 2 decades and analysed the size of tidal stresses 2 weeks before earthquakes.

When looking at the 12 largest recorded earthquakes the study found that nine of them occurred on dates near to new or full moons.

The researchers also found that on half moon days when the fault lines where under less stress, there was less chance of a big earthquake happening.

Earthquake physicist Emily Brodsky from the University of California, Santa Cruz has said "It's a very interesting and intriguing observation. If it's right, it's a very big deal," She did however add that the small sample size is not enough to draw a definite conclusion.

So I guess we will have to go further back or wait for more earthquakes to find definitive evidence of if this pattern is one related to historical and future earthquakes.
